2024 Annual Report

Thanks to your generosity, 2024 was PFJ’s, biggest, boldest, and most successful year yet.

With your support, we helped public defenders reduce more than 3,000 years of potential incarceration (and we’re still counting) — in just one year. Instead of in a cage, that’s 1,095,000 days the people we worked with spent in their communities, at work, in school, or with family and loved ones.

Throughout last year, we also saw our largest-ever cohort of Client Advocates help over 9,500 individuals (the most we’ve ever served) meet their service goals a whopping 80% of the time, securing everything from stable housing and healthcare to accessing food, education, and employment.

And we didn’t stop there. In 2024, we:

• Expanded our Capacity Building work across Illinois and Missouri, and helped launch a groundbreaking community-based defense initiative in Chicago
• Launched EIGHT new Client Advocate partnerships, including operations in Mississippi, Virginia, and in San Mateo County, California
• Published our first major report, highlighting six years of growth and learning
• Partnered with researchers at Stanford and the University of Pennsylvania to deepen the evidence base for our work
• Received national recognition for our impact and model, including an article published in the American Bar Association’s Criminal Justice magazine

Every one of these achievements is a direct result of your belief in what’s possible when we put people first in the justice system.
